Proxy Error when trying to install pip

Aug 12, 2013 at 3:08 AM
When i try to add a virtual environment and pip tries to download/install, I am getting a 407 Proxy Authentication Error. Everything else in vs2012 works fine (NuGet, Package Managers...) but not this.

Ideas?

We currently don't support any proxy settings in our bootstrap script, so you'll have to install pip manually. You'll be best to get it from this page - make sure you choose the correct version - or you can try the get-pip.py script from their GitHub page.

Once you've got pip, you'll need to create a configuration file (probably C:\Users\YourName\pip\pip.ini) that looks like:
[global]
proxy=[user:passwd@]proxy.server:port
(Yes, you need to put your password there in plain text. Sorry, but this is a separate package from us and we have no control over them.)

Once that is set up you should be good to go. Let us know if it all works and I'll write up a wiki page.
