Lates RC issues

description

Hi

So decided to upgrade to RC, thinking the issue I had with the alpha was fixed, but it does not seem so.

I tried uninstalling and deleting the directory, still getting the same error. Any ideas ,what got corrupted during the install or install?

Can you attach the output of Tools - Python Tools - Diagnostic Info... to this issue? I suspect there's been an installation issue, and that info will help me see if we're loading the wrong files.

(Or you can email it to ptvshelp@microsoft.com if you want to keep personal directories/names off the internet - I'll reply here)

So, it just generates "Gathering data.." with the RC installed.

What is kinda confusing is that downgrading to Beta 2 works perfectly.

Do you think clearing the completion DB might help?

ArtyomTopchyan wrote Aug 12 at 7:14 PM

So the anaylsis log for the completeion DB says this

Okay, you've clearly suffered an upgrade issue and the wrong files are being loaded.

If you downgrade to 2.1 Beta 2, then uninstall PTVS completely and reinstall 2.1 RC, does that help?

ArtyomTopchyan wrote Aug 12 at 8:22 PM

No same thing. I uninstalled Beta2 deleted the dirs then installed RC. No luck. I really hope this is not one of the no hope cases.

Zooba wrote Aug 12 at 8:27 PM

So do I.

Can you uninstall PTVS, then open a VS command prompt and see whether gacutil /l Microsoft.PythonTools.Analysis shows any assemblies? (That's /lowercase-L for list.)

Zooba wrote Aug 12 at 9:18 PM

So that tells me that something isn't uninstalled completely. Does gacutil /u Microsoft.PythonTools.Analysis succeed? (You may need an Administrator command prompt)

Zooba wrote Aug 12 at 9:41 PM

Okay, that's good. It means we can clean up the GAC and you should be able to reinstall RC.

These are the other assemblies you'll need to remove:
  • Microsoft.PythonTools.Attacher
  • Microsoft.PythonTools.Debugger
  • Microsoft.VisualStudio.ReplWindow

ArtyomTopchyan wrote Aug 12 at 10:09 PM

Oke. So now should i try RC again?

ArtyomTopchyan wrote Aug 12 at 10:34 PM

It worked. Cheers for the help. And saving me from the horror of knowing there is a new version, which I cant use :D.
