Visual Studio Express 2013 update 2 - not supported?

description

Just installed latest version of VS2013 - unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be supported by either 2.1 beta or the current dev build:

"Your version of Visual Studio 2013 is not supported. Please install the latest update from http://www.visualstudio.com/."

I assume the install is still looking for the RC of update 2 - now that update 2 is fully released, is there a work-around to get PT installed?

Cheers,
Matt

Think I may have answered my own question - just noticed I have the "for Windows" version installed, rather than "for Windows Desktop" - will re-install and re-test.

Yep, that'll be the issue. We had to justify our ability to install into each Express SKU individually (it's a bit of a special privilege, since they are not meant to support extensions) and while it was easy for Web and Desktop, there was no compelling case for supporting Express for Windows.

What we should do is detect it and provide a more useful error message.

Zooba,

No problem, thanks for confirming so quickly.

I run Premium at work and forget there are several flavours of express - I just picked the wrong one :-)

Zooba,

Hmmm, looks like I spoke too soon - installed VS2013 for Windows Desktop - same message. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Matt

What version number is displayed in the Help\About window? It's possible you've ended up in a partially updated state.

12.0.21005.1 REL

Installation seems OK...

Thanks. That's the original release version, so you'll have to install Update 2 again for it to apply. I'd recommend doing it anyway, since you're deep in unsupported and probably untested territory now - plenty of Visual Studio components are shared by the various editions, and right now they are different versions for you.

Gah... sorry - should've realised that :-)

Thanks, I'll update tonight and try again.

Zooba,

All sorted - thanks for your assistance - appreciated.

Kind regards,

Hi,

I'm having the same issue here with Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows Desktop and I did install Update 2 already. Here's the version number of my installation:

Version 12.0.30501.00 Update 2

Any help/suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Eduardo

Are you using PTVS 2.1 Beta? That's the first version that supports installation into the Express versions.
