Exceptions after new install

I have a new install of PTVS with the integrated shell and cpython 2.7.5. I also have a previous installation of VS Express 2013 for Web on the same Windows 8.1 64 bit machine.

After insallation of PTVS when I start it and do a new project, or re-open it and open the new project, I always get an exception warning: An exception has been encountered. This may be caused by an extension. It recommends I look at ActivityLog.xml which contains:
234 ERROR System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: key at System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.FindEntry(TKey key) at System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.TryGetValue(TKey key, TValue& value) at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Text.BraceCompletion.Implementation.BraceCompletionAggregator.Init() at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Text.BraceCompletion.Implementation.BraceCompletionAggregatorFactory.CreateAggregator() at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Text.BraceCompletion.Implementation.BraceCompletionManagerFactory.TextViewCreated(IWpfTextView textView) at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Text.Editor.Implementation.WpfTextView.<>c__DisplayClassc.<BindContentTypeSpecificAssets>b__9() at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Text.Utilities.GuardedOperations.CallExtensionPoint(Object errorSource, Action call) Editor or Editor Extension 2014/03/01 23:29:25.859
Followed by:
235 ERROR The color 'Popup' in category 'de7b1121-99a4-4708-aedf-15f40c9b332f' does not exist. Color Theme Service 2014/03/01 23:29:25.963
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Python and PTVS and the exception persists.

I tried looking into disabling the extensions. For example I am guessing I don't need the IronPython extension if I an installing just cpython. I can't see how to remove them though. Within PTVS it says they can only be removed from the control panel's add/remove programs, but they do not exist as separate entries in the list of installed programs.

If you rerun the PTVS installer and choose "Advanced" at the start, you can remove some components. That said, I don't think it'll help you with this issue.

Are you using PTVS 2.1 Alpha or 2.0? Also, are you using Django projects or does it happen for any project?

First I installed 2.0 and had the problem with just the basic Python Application. Then I installed 2.1 for the flask support, and saw the same message when I created a flask application there. It also happens with a new Django project.
