Can't install because VS is installed on secondary HDD

description

Hi!

It seems that it is impossible to install PTVS if you install VS in other locations than what's "normal".

I have a secondary HDD for all my programs and stuff like that. So when I run the PTVS installer, it says that I need VS first, even though I have it installed, but on a secondary HDD. Is this a known issue and is there a fix?

Best regards

This isn't a known issue, unless you've installed VS Express (in which case it is, because we won't install into those).

What version of VS do you have installed and what does your path layout look like?

Ah, I have installed the VS Express. I thought it didn't matter.

Unfortunately it does - VS Express doesn't support third-party extensions.

Our install page has details on getting the VS Shells (which are free, but contain no languages until you install PTVS) or our PTVS Integrated installer (from our download page) which will set that up for you.
