See screenshot, not sure why some items are yellow and some are white:

That's the VS 2010 "theme" - it uses gradients in combo boxes (among other things).

Not a lot we can do here without potentially breaking people who customize the colours - try setting high-contrast mode and see what changes occur. If VS doesn't change theme, then I'd be okay with forcing this colour to white for VS 2010, but if it does vary then I'd rather not touch it.

For comparison, some screenshots using High Contrast #1 and High Contrast White. The combo box for environment window options looks the same as all the other combo boxes I looked at. The one for virtual env:
  • uses different background color
  • does not change on mouse hover, so it's harder to see which one is about to be selected

Interesting. It may be worth looking at substituting the default system colours for Dev10, rather than the VS colours, though it depends on how long our support is going to last.

At this stage, I'm inclined to prioritise it lower than other bugs, which effectively means we'll never bother. (Unless, of course, we have the same issue on VS2012+, which means we need to choose our colour keys again.)

The combo box in the install package dialog is slightly better under high contrast, at least it has some hover feedback. Not sure what's different between that one and the one in virtual env dialog.

I tried VS 2013, and we look exactly the same as in VS 2010 when running in high contrast.

We should fix the combo boxes in High Contrast, but the VS 2010 colours can stay as they are.
