interactive plotting in python debug interactive window

I am new to python and PTVS so this might be a dumb question. Anyway, here it is.

I am used to plotting data while my program stops at a break point, which I've done so many times in matlab. In PTVS in the Python Debug Interactive window, I can examine the data and do most things that I do in matlab. But I cannot plot data. Or at least I cannot show the plot. Whenever I call after plt.plot(...), an error pops up saying that "ValueError: signal only works in main thread".

Now I know I can do all kinds of things in the Python <version> Interactive window. But I don't have my local variables that's in my program.

I also came across ipython embed. Read a few posts. Seems that ipython embed could be useful for me on this. However, I cannot make it to work.

Anybody has a good suggestion on this?

Thanks in advance.
