debugging: how to step into a python package?

Aug 15, 2014 at 12:32 PM
In my project I'm using some python package (nltk). When debugging my code I would like to step into a method that is provided in this python package. Pressing Step Into currently just executes the method and performs a normal Step over. Any idea how to do this?
Note that I'm not talking about native debugging where I'd step into c++ code - I just want to step into some python code that is not a part of my project, but a separate python package.

Thank you for your help!

For this, you will want to go to Tools-Options-Python Tools-Debugging and select Enable debugging the Python standard library. (If you were already debugging you'll need to stop and start debugging again). Then you should be able to step into nltk.

perfect, thank you. I don't know why I didn't notice the new settings in the Tools->Options.
