How to use PTVS in Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows Desktop?

May 22 at 12:18 PM
Hi

I am running 'Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows Desktop' version '12.0.21005.1 REL'. Python is not listed in File > New projects > Templates.

Can I use PTVS with this edition of Visual Studio?

If I need an update, where would I get it from?

Best regards

You can get update 2 from the bottom of the downloads page at visualstudio.com and you'll need PTVS 2.1 Beta (Express support is a very new feature - if you want to use PTVS 2.0, look at our install documentation for info on getting VS Shells).

Thanks for your help. It looks a great tool and I am pleased that it now supports the Express edition.

You need Express for Web to use Django. We rely on a dependency that is not included in Express for Desktop, so we can't make it available in both.
