Making a matplotlib figure appear in a separate window

Apr 17, 2013 at 5:46 PM
Is it possible to make matplotlib figure appear in a separate windown rather than inline when executing code in the interactive repl? Namely, the following example code starts a window if executed in ipython qtconsole but in PTVS repl show() simply does nothing.

import numpy as np
from pylab import *
X = np.linspace(-np.pi, np.pi, 256, endpoint=True)
C,S = np.cos(X), np.sin(X)
plot(X, C)
plot(X, S)

If you go to Tools->Options->Python Tools->Interactive Windows, select the interpreter you're interested in from the "Show settings for" drop down, and then change the "Interactive Mode" from "IPython" to "IPython w/o PyLab" the inline plot feature will be disabled and plots will be shown how they would from a normal command prompt.

Thank you that worked!
