Develop Mezzanine sites in PTVS?

What does PTVS12 expect from a django project? I notice that django projects created from within VS follow the new layout in Django 1.4, with settings.py, urls.py, etc. in a package directory under the project folder which holds manage.py. If I hand-build a project that follows the older default layout (settings.py and urls.py in the same directory as manage.py), will that be a problem for PTVS?

I understand from this discussion that PTVS currently can't import existing Django projects (as Django projects, anyway). What I'm trying to understand is whether there's a reasonable way to develop Mezzanine sites with PTVS. Mezzanine has a custom "create project" command which builds a skeleton site, but that skeleton follows the older project layout. I can think of a couple of approaches, and it'd be helpful to know what PTVS expects.

Thanks for the great work!
